Laugh? Cry? Priest?

Wednesday, August 10, 2011

You know those days, well in my case weeks, months....who in the hell am I kidding? Years, you know those years (you probably don't because you don't live my freak show of a life) if you don't laugh you'll cry?

Well I'm laughing my butt off right now. Hysterically, really, can you hear me? Ok, maybe not hysterically and maybe I do have a tear in my eye but I'd never admit it to anyone but you, the entire blogosphere.

You see I have this Landrover. It's a beautiful car and totally luxurious. It's fun to drive, awesome to look at and totally frustrating.

It's been dying when my daughter drives it. First we had the battery tested. Yep, battery was bad. Replaced the battery. All should be well, right? HA, remember this is MY life. I seem to exist in this drama filled bubble.

Car kept dying. Took the POS to the shop. It was there for two weeks and they couldn't get the problem to reproduce. Today I decided to have the kids pick up the Rover and bring it home. Maybe it was a fluke. HA again!

Nikki started the Rover right up and drove to the gas station. She turned off the car so it could be filled with overpriced fuel. Went to turn the car on....nothing. NOTHING! It was perfect at the mechanic's place, you know, kinda like when your kid's head is spinning 'round and 'round while they projectile vomit pea soup and when you take them to the pediatrician they're all like they came out of a Shirley Temple movie? Yeah, that's my Landrover. Possessed and Shirley Temple without the grenadine.

Someone please pop this drama bubble I live in. Or better yet, any of you good with Landrovers? I surely could use your help. At the moment I'm thinking of using the thing for target practice!

I just had a thought. It only happens when Nikki drives it. Hmmmm.......I may need a priest after all.

Laughing hysterically or maniacally?

Sheesh... always something, isn't it? ;-)

I totally get it!! When I am feeling shitty for a long time, I finally make a Drs appt. By the time I get to the Dr, I'm all fine and all better. It drives me bananas! Maybe its just in my head.

I wonder if the people working on the landrover just couldn't find the problem, or found it but couldn't fix it... but lied about it to save face and reputation? I dunno... I just don't trust car dealership places.

I once took my car to a discount tires shop. I only needed new brakes... but when I came back to pick up the car, they told me oh but your axel is broken. Excise me? I may be blonde and all, but my axel was perfectly fine when I dropped it off earlier. They wanted 180 bucks to fix it. I said no. They looked nervous. I said no way. it was fine when I brought it in. They reluctantly handed my car back to me... and I drove it off the lot and the axel WAS broken. But it wasn't broken before!! I thumped my way to a gas station and had them look at it and they said they could fix it, no problem only 50 bucks.

Um. 180 bucks compared to 50 bucks? Them guys at the discount tire place thought I was an easy mark, huh?!?!?!

I realize this is in no way comparable to your story. It just came to mind when I was reading your post.

I hope you can get it fixed. It IS a beautiful car!

had a car that did the same thing.. check for a loos ground wire from the battery.. if it is losing it's connection you will have that issue. Something so simple as a tightened bolt can fix it.

My husband has/had a 1995 Land Rover. That thing is THE WORST CAR EVER. It drives okay but I can't even count on both hands how many times one part our another has crapped out, he has to take it to ONE mechanic in town who SOMETIMES has the RIDICULOUS priced parts...One time we drove to Costco, ran in for 5 minutes, came out, and the freaking car wouldn't start. We ended up calling his dad, they looked at the car for like two hours, finally called a tow truck, and the tow truck didn't get there for another hour. We were sitting in the parking lot until like 11 PM.
I say he has/had a Land Rover because technically his Land Rover is at his parents and he still owns it...but the brakes are shot and it's probably gonna cost more than it's worth to fix them.
Eff you, Land Rover!

Happens to me all the time. People come to me with an equipment problem, and when I'm there it works perfect.
Also, I need $800 worth of repairs on my $1300 scooter.

Ack! I hate this.
Mostly because the mechanic looks at me like I am a crazy person...

I hope you get it figured out soon

that is all

Yep, sounds like your Landrover clearly needs some deep "deliverance"! LOL!
"Out, I say!" Ok did that do it? Ha!
I hate when you cannot reproduce the bad sound or weird rattling in a car for the mechanics, make you feel like a loon. As if you would bring it in just for the FUN of it!

This is why I still drive my old 4Runner. No matter what, it starts and drives. LOL!

Feel for you so sorry it is so frustrating. My daughter's car did this a couple of times where it would run and even drive and then just magically shut down. I had no idea what was wrong but thought it was a column key issue or something. NOPE - they did a check and one of the computers that allows the car to start was bad. This was a Chrysler and covered up to 5 years so fix was free. Your car is a much fancier brand so they may have better warranty too? Basically even if you have to pay, go get a $100 electrical check and they will look at all of those OBD codes and advise you which computer or device is failing. You can buy one of the readers yourself for about $50 but MOST shops will NOT take your word for what's wrong and STILL re-check the car before they work on it and charge you anyway. So if you or your hubs is handy and wants to do an OBD II check ( On board Diagnostics) borrow one of the testers and plug it in as whenever the event happens. Most systems store several codes from the car's computers. They give you a book to translate the codes into where to look in the car for a faster fix! Good Luck! W.C.C.

I'm thinking you need to trade it in for something equally as nice that actually works. I mean, unless you want to drive the old pick up truck which probably actually works a lot better. Many years ago I had to drive an old classic Jeep... men thought a hot woman driving a classic POS (as I called it) was HOT! See, a bright side to a dramatic situation. Although you probably don't need a classic to make you look hot! ;)

WC;
The warranty ran out on the car several years ago. They've done all of the diagnostics on the car and they always come back fine. Right now the theory is that the starter may be bad.

Meh, I can't say I have an awesome Land Rover that is dying...but my totally mommified minivan is doing precisely the same thing. This is, without a doubt, because nothing can ever just "be" in a land of the constantly shifting! ;-)
